Most of the LPs I have are from the 70s, whereas my CDs are from the 80s and 90s.While both CDs and LPs can sound very good, I find that on average, the sound quality of a 1995 CD is noticably better than a 1975 LP. This is not due to CD or LP technology, but rather the tape recorders, electronics, and recording techniques used to create the 1995 CD were much better than those used to create the 1975 LP.
Older recordings tend to suffer from analog tape problems (mushy bass and tape saturation). Improvements in the recording chain have mainly benefitted CDs, with LPs being frozen in time.
