This is done through the use of compression, equalization, mixing, electronic reverb, and other effects. The result is what people expect when listening to a car radio, but on a revealing system, comes across as being very artificial.
Well-recorded acoustic music sounds much better on my Maggies. I still enjoy rock, though.
