Re: Clipping

To determine if your amp is clipping, back down on the volume and see if the problem goes away. Solid-state amp clipping is very harsh sounding - its not subtle. I don't think you're experiencing clipping (although an amp upgrade may be in your future).

Older Magnepans may buzz/rattle due to delamination of the wires from the panel. This occurs on loud bass notes and indicates the need for repair. Your MG1.6s are likely too new to have this problem.

The MG1.6 has a slight grainyness that is present at all volumes and part of the speaker's character. I devised my mid-boost mod to address this. This may be what you're looking for. My only doubt is that I wouldn't describe the stock MG1.6 as having a rattle or gurgle - that would more likely imply delamination or clipping.
