Single full-range driver, no crossover, small relative to the wavelength of sound, doesn't need to move a lot of air... its tough to beat headphones for accuracy.The only problem is headphones don't interact with the ear in the same way as regular sounds. But I think that's a small effect relative to the problems introduced by crossovers.
