Click on the (A) and follow the links to see a description.I've been designing and building my own amplifiers as a hobby for a long time. All have been solid-state, bipolar transistor, integrated amplifiers. I built the present amplifier because I had learned enough to sigificantly improve upon its predecessor, and I thought I needed more watts to drive the Maggies (that turned out to be a myth). One area in which I was able to make both an audible as well as a measureable improvement was in lowering the noise floor.
I haven't posted the plans for the amplifier since I don't want commercial knock-offs, and with approximately 500 discrete components, the amplifier is beyond the skill of the average hobbyist to construct IMO. If you're into electronics, similar design concepts may be found in the Leach Amp and ML-2 .
