RE: do the LRS and .7 sound better at low volumes than the 1.7i?

The LRS has poor bass response at low volume , worse than the .7 or 1.7.

The important thing for good low volume sound is a high quality power amp.

I use an old, but mint IIIa, and it goes down to 30Hz and sounds great at low volumes.

The power amp is a Son Of Ampzilla 2000 ($4200) new in 2010.
