I have owned six foot Magnepans since 1975...MG IIa, MG IIIa, and now 3.6.They have been in 6 or 7 different rooms over the years.
At first my listening spot was 10 or 12 feet away, but lately I have moved closer, and gotten a more intimate experience. The soundstage moves forward more... projecting out the front of the speaker, toward the listening spot.
Too close and the soundstage does not climb to the top of the speaker.
For me, the optimum spot is 8 to 8.5 feet from the speakers to the listening spot, measured with a laser measuring device. Speakers 5 feet from the front wall.
What is your experience?
