Maggies like drinking lots of watts & the bigger, the thirstier.

I found a relatively inexpensive solution while thinking I'd have a lengthy wait for my Magtech when I sent it back to have thermal resisters replaced. My wait turned out to be a one week turnaround with Sanders, but that's another story.

Prior to shipping I purchased a pair of Wyred4Sound SX-1000R monoblocks which have a very high damping factor and work quite well with Maggies, better than most folks here would probably think given their Class D topology. Currently I think they run about $2600 for a pair. Also, they're very stable with the 4 Ohm load Maggies present, light weight, but powerful amps.

The W4S pricing wasn't bad either, about a 40% of the Sanders Magtech's price point. Used, I'd think W4S amps could probably be purchased for about half that, which shouldn't break the bank. Just a thought. BTW, should you decide to go this route your back will sincerely appreciate it.

Cheers,
AuPh
