RE: Planar's dark side

that's a lot of positioning and equipment factors to figure in. I'm mid field positioned because of the room dimensions and have 5 subs for the bottom, 1 active middle of room which is behind listening position because of the room and a serious null spot. 2 passives underneath each Quad, 2 passives in corners 3 feet behind but all operated quite easily and smoothly. You can't hear any individual one.

I get record ticks well off of any sound plane and out of phase stuff well off to the sides. It can be quite disorienting at times.

I had to make do with my music cave in the basement, which is 18 feet wide and 34 feet deep. It took a few years to dial things in and achieve happiness with vinyl and CD's. I heard streaming at a friends house but the tippy top high frequencies were pretty ratty compared to vinyl and plain old CD - unlistenable and fatiguing immediately, and my ears are good to 16khz. Maybe someday they will get it right, but I have an extensive library and no desire quite yet. I am in no rush and spend my money on other things.

It all might sound a bit crazy but that's why they call it an Asylum. Best Wishes
