The asymmetrical configuration of his system is somewhat interesting. I gather that polar response issues are not high on Hal's priority list. Neither does time alignment. I guess this inspiration comes from Danny Richie.
Some of the panel speakers (like Maggies) are asymmetrical just because of the inherent physical configuration, but I don't believe in purposely making speakers (more) asymmetric in horizontal polar response, when you have the option not to.
