Maybe it's just me, but I think it brings more integrity to the Stereophile classifications that a relatively low cost speaker system managed to find it's way into a higher category than expected. Critical judgment should be based on overall comparisons of sound, not price tags. If a speaker earns praise for performing better than expected, other speaker manufacturers will take notice,
This doesn't make me want to downsize my glorious 3.7i Maggies, but if I was just getting started in the high end audio, trying to scale speakers to a more modest listening room powered by similarly matched amplification, ...oh heck yeah, In fact, if I ever had cause to downsize this would probably be the first speaker system I'd want to audition before that transition.
This has got to be a win/win for Magneplanar as long as they can meet demand. Personally, I think this'll pull more folks in their direction requiring them to ramp up production even more.
Cheers,
AuPh
