Home Planar Speaker Asylum

Welcome! Need support, you got it. Or share your ideas and experiences.

I'm glad that you posed this as a question.

My experience has been that there are jerks in every hobby, this is no different. Also, I think the term "audiophile" has gotten such a bad rap that these days very few folks are comfortable being referred to as such without having an explanation attached.

Being into high end audio is very much like being into high performance sports cars. Either you "get it" and you're totally into it or you don't understand it at all. Most folks are going to be in the latter "car is just a car" category, never understanding the dedication some folks have for it. Also, given the costs of maintaining high end gear to achieve best performance, anything which screams "grey poupon" automatically turns off folks who see it as a crazy indulgence supported by a wealthy bunch of old farts with lots of money to throw around.

Yes, these are unfair stereotypes (pun intended). What the video does is provide a good starting point for a broader gathering of planar enthusiasts of both genders who have developed an appreciation of and passion for high performance home audio.

Allow me to add, Magnepan appears well positioned as a possible motivational leader by offering lines starting with relatively inexpensive entry level performance speakers to the grander 30 series, all designed for value at their respective price points. This is the kind of thing which invites broader participation, IMO.

The video was a great idea which holds promise for future gatherings of like minded audio enthusiasts willing to participate on camera.

Music can either be foreground or background. For those of us with audiophile blood coarsing through our veins I'm persuaded that we prefer our music front and center with as little of the world getting between it as humanly possible.

Cheers,
AuPh
