RE: Quick power Lesson

Hmmm, I haven't noticed a ring associated with my Mye stands, maybe Frodo finally dispatched it to Mount Doom.

I can see the logic of using wood instead of iron on some holes. While wood may seem like an ideal all around choice, iron can fill in with shot in rough sounding sounding territory or conversely, if sand is involved. That said, It seems like wood is par for the coarse for some players. ...I fully expect to lose a stroke for that paragraph.

Seriously, Mye stands are built quite solidly and don't impart any ringing or smearing of transients that I've been able to detect. Hey, maybe they're made out of the same weird alloy as Captain America's Shield. What was that stuff? Oh yeah, ...Vibranium.

Joking aside, I remain skeptical that changing the composition material providing rigid support makes a noticeable improvement. Beyond a certain point along the upgrade path tweaking becomes more of a maze than a road to audio nirvana, Don't get me wrong, I'm all for real world design improvements, but very conservative when it comes to making changes that might actually be a step backwards. I'm more interested in listening to music than experimentation.

I"m not an expert on amplifier topology, but to my ears there's plenty of headroom in the latest version of Wyerd4Sound SX-1000R monoblock amps. In addition to their size, reduced weight and running cool, I actually hear a tad more top end clarity and openness (headroom) in the SX-1000R's than in my beloved Sanders Sound Magtech.

That said, the Sander's Magtech sounds a bit sweeter in the mids on some music. The W4S amps produce over 1100 clean (low distortion) WPC into a 4 Ohm load, the Magtech achieves even better numbers topping out at 900 WPC. My 3.7i twins love to imbibe current, so they may just favor the W4S flavor a bit more on some material.

Both manufacturer's amplifier systems are excellent top to bottom with tight full bass extension. I don't know how they'd fare in a blind A/B shoot-out though (I'm not set-up to do real-time amplifier switching).

Alas, it may just be that my ears are closer to Tin than Gold. Picket fencing is a new one though. I haven't heard anything like that, but I'll keep a bucket of white paint nearby in case they pop-up and require painting!

Sorry about all the cheeky asides, it's all meant in fun. I sincerely appreciate your response and suggestions. We all have interesting philosophies on what can have a positive impact on the sound, gear and music listening aspirations. That's what makes audio such a great hobby.

Cheers,
AuPh
