a drill and solder gun, definitley doable

I'd love to take on those!

Although there would be some overlap I'd keep the stock metal plate in place and cut a slat of wood similar in dimensions to the original (again the slat would be a bit wider to accommodate the binding post).I'd first measure how four of these post would fit, cut a few slats of wood (maple,mahogany,oak, to name a few), lay out the post

, remove the existing plate to see how much depth there is to work with. Take photos of the colored wires, snip, solder in the new post and viola! nice!

only drawback would be the cost, the post above is a Cardas, one of their cheapest and it's still $35; you'd need 8 of those.
