Can't win 'em all!

If you always seek simplistic metrics to define the boundaries of performance, you'll never experience what's available.

When wifey and I were test driving a Porsche Boxster, the salesman (who is an SCCA certified driving instructor) led me to an interstate ramp and gave me specific instructions as to what to do. It was a lazy right to left curve and back to right for merging. He told me to floor it at the right to left transition and hold that until the top. I merged at 110 but the feeling of utter stability and complete lack of rotational inertia convinced me this was what I wanted. Mind you, I still have a Honda S2000 with 50/50 weight balance and 0.9 cornering capability, but when pushed you are aware of the mass shifts during transitions. The 981 is like my stats in terms of delivering the most satisfying and emotional connection.

Similarly, coherence cannot be quantified with any single number. You have to experience what that really means in the musical sense. This past weekend, we returned to the symphony for a really fun program of Harry Potter music - of which I know very well. There was so much tasty percussion from top to bottom with the beauty of a celesta in the middle.

These are the kinds of experiences that shape my perspective.
