The issue with tall line sources that Linkwitz points out and many of us experienced with either the McIntosh line sources or earlier Tympani models that were known for the big violin imaging problem.
I visited the McIntosh factory when business took me to the Binghamton area years ago. I was quite impressed with the people and their passion for quality control. I was not, however, impressed when my congenial host played some content in their main listening room on the XR2TK speakers driven by the massive 2 kW amplifiers. Big and powerful, but not especially spatial in their presentation.
They only come in when you integrate other drivers in the horizontal plane.
A challenge I don't face with full range electrostats. :)
