My listening room is our living/HT room so flexibility is essential. Our projection screen is on a track so that it can be flat against the wall or brought forward between the speakers to provide a wider viewing cone. Of course I could move the Maggies for HT viewing, but they're on spiked Mye stands. Repositioning the speakers every time we move the screen up not only poses convenience problems, it might alter the sweetness of the sound as it is now. When setting up the Maggies in this environment I knew that there'd be some limitations, but I figured that the most important adjustments could be provided through toe-in and forward/backward tilt after replacing the stock feet with Mye stands. Based on my listening experience this has proven to be the case. The key factor seems to be our 20' high ceiling. With the increased ceiling height sound reflection issues associated with the vertical plane are significantly reduced.
The speakers are spread a few inches wider than originally set-up because the 100" 16:9 Supernova screen that replaced our old 120" 4:3 HT screen has a slightly wider frame measurement-wise to accommodate the widescreen format. I was concerned about the possibility of center image suck-out or other imaging issues when listening to music, but toe-in produced an improvement, tightening the focus with negligible loss to soundstage imaging or stereo separation.
As currently set-up my system sounds lively and holographic most of the time (dependent upon the music and stamina of the preamp tubes in my Audible Illusions L3). The Maggie 3.7i are sumptuous and involving, but unforgiving of gear upstream.
Thanks for the suggestions!
Much appreciated,
AuPh
