Just got a Laser Distance Meter

Read Gary Koh's (Genesis) whitepaper on planar speaker set-up (below) and saw this, "Phase difference between the left and right ear at middle C (256Hz) is about 0.7deg. Moving one speaker forward by 0.1” or 2.5mm, shifts the image of a singer by about 4 inches towards the speaker that is being moved if the speaker is at a 10 foot distance from the listening position."

Huh? I'm all thumbs with a tape measure. I broke the last one. Bought a Leica Disto E7400x, mounted it on a tripod, and moved both speakers to within 1mm. Soundstage now magical. Results I could only dream of. Took about a 1/2 hour. I spent weeks crawling around on the floor not even coming close. Some of the best money I ever spent.

Disclaimer: I spend $10 on low TCR resistors, match tubes to within 2%, and channel level match my tri-amped system to within .5dB with my DMM. Signs of a certifiable but content Asylum member.
