You started off on the right track but then got side-tracked. :) The key factor here is the source and its characteristics. Yes, you have the possibility of the unused cable acting as an RF stub, of a kind, but I think it's of minimal concern for the objective of this test.Sanders scheme is perfectly valid for interconnect comparison, but only if the source satisfies the proper requirements. His mistake was he didn't make that clear in his white paper write-up and thus much confusion was created by some folks reading it.
