Greetings,
Good luck breaking 90dB with 10-15 watts. The math is good in theory, but does not account for frequency variation among other factors. Try playing some organ music, large symphony, drums, anything with dynamic demand, and 200wpc will be gobbled up,, much less 10-15 and I can tell you that I have measured 90-91db at 2 meters, and had my Bryston 250wpc 4BSST hitting into the red, meaning clipping point, again barely pushing 90-91dB into Magnepan 3.6. If you have a small room, wood floors, low ceiling, maybe a tube amp will work, if your musical tastes are not of the power demanding types. Panels just do not do loud and dynamic easily. Just do the easy thing and get a Pass 250wpc, Bryston 4BSST, 14BSST, 7BSST, Classe, something with some horsepower, then you appreciate the dynamics of a magnepan. The only tube amps that I would use are the ASL Hurricanes, Conrad Johnson 140, Manley 250 or 500, or the lowest powered one was a Music Reference RM9 MKII. Roger uses a transformer that is ideally suited for the panel, remember, he used to work for Harold Beverage of panel fame, and the 125 watts do play reasonably loud. The transformer coupling is nearly as important as is the wattage. Transformer types are another whole subject. Bottom line is low power is a big risk with a panel. Jallen
