The main point being, if it's carefully set up (and this is easier since you're a sweet spot kinda guy!), a center is not necessary. Good stereo imaging will cover the center very nicely, and in fact be able to throw a convincing 3D image, to the point a dedicated speaker is not needed or missed.
I've not put as much effort into optimizing my placement as have others on this board, but can still fool most folks into syaing "oh yes the center channel sounds quite good and integrates very well" even though it's only the stereo 1.7's playing :)
