Maybe things have changed

When I worked there, a pair of speakers were matched fairly closely.

Each resonant section was close to the same as its mate in the other channel. If not the same, they were only a few cycles apart.

In fact, each section was marked or otherwise recorded.

Seems like mismatched speakers would have a different tonal balance and even channel balance according to frequency.

But maybe things have changed since the days back when it was extremely important to have as closely matched pairs as possible (closely matched resonant frequencies).

Another possibility is that at the lower price point of the MMG, they simply cannot match them due to the labor expense.

However, one "tuning dot" means two prominent resonant frequencies in one channel, and three means four in the other. They certainly cannot be matched in that case.

Maybe Josh can chime in here with the official Magnepan position instead of our (actually, my) guessing.

Best regards,

Jim Smith
