The minidsp is very flexible and extremely cheap compared to the price I paid for the upgraded caps and coils in my external passive crossover. You get tremendous gain by going active in a biamping setup over a passive crossover. The minidsp allows you to quickly try out different crossover curves and play with delay, inverting and level balancing between the high and low panel. In addition, you can even apply some EQ if you want.
I have been very happy with the sound quality so far with the magnepan approximated crossover curves that neolith defined. It definitely is a step up from what I had before with my updated external passive crossover which in turn was a step up from the stock crossover.
