If you liked the sound of the 23.5, perhaps a used Bryston would be a good choice - they are voiced somewhat similarly.
Although the 1Ds are 4 ohms, I've never heard them sound better than with a great tube amp.
Don't know if there are any contenders in the used-under-1K range, however.
Once upon a time, an ARC D-76A was super involving musically, as long as you didn't want to really rock out.
And for so-called "budget" amps, the Van Alstine modified Dyna Stereo 400 was mighty sweet with 1Ds.
