In my previous room, the depth was limited to 12-ft and the sofa was within inches of the back wall. To absorb the sound reflecting off the wall immediately behind my head I made an absorber panel for the area. The panel was six feet wide and two feet high and four inches thick. When seated, my head position was at the center of the height & width of the panel. The absorber worked so well I had zero acoustic issues associated with being seated close to the back wall. If you have a shallow room, this is an excellent solution.
