I've heard those comments. Don't agree with them.
In general, I've preferred stacked quads in the areas of concern that you mentioned.
They are more fussy in set-up, such as needing to be inverted and tilted so that the path length is equal from top to bottom.
But the pay-off can be greater.
Tough to beat, IMO.
