That would be great. We spoke a few days ago and he was speaking in terms of using the midrange foil on the woofers, and paralleling sections to get the impedance down. This is easy to design but I'm still missing some basic specs, either the width of the midrange or tweeter foil on the 1.7's or resistance measurements. Once we know what the resistance is we can work out an arrangement that will give us a 4 ohm DCR on the woofer. Or, if we know the width -- which Wendell said earlier has been optimized -- we could try to line up foil of the right thickness to keep the 4 ohm impedance without paralleling sections. That would increase mass to the same as the original aluminum wire. The advantage of that is that all the fundamental resonance will be in the same place and the "Q" will stay the same as in the original MMG. The disadvantage is that the transient response won't be as good as it would be with the lower mass midrange foil. Wendell's idea is to "hot rod" the woofer, which is currently slow but in the MMG has to handle frequencies up to 1000 Hz and is still making a significant contribution several octaves up, since the crossover is only 6 dB/octave.
I'd love to have measurements of the DCR of the 1.7 woofer, tweeter, and supertweeter, from which we can figure out the electrical crossover points. The more we know the more likely our first attempt will be to produce good results and the easier it will be to fine tune when we get to the stage of measurements. And we have some forks to consider, e.g., do we go with the tweeter/supertweeter arrangement and series crossover and make a mini-1.7, or do we focus more on a two-way MMG with a super fast woofer -- much easier to build since only the woofer has to be redone.
