Had to be a bad set-up.
Even sounds as if maybe they were out of phase.
Over the years, I can't tell you how many gifted - and sometimes famous - musicians heard the Maggies and fell in love with them.
No way there'd be zillions of avid supporters - with their own forum - for sound as bad as you described.
Find a way to hear them again, demo'd by anyone but that salesman, if not that dealer.
