I would not use the MG-III crossover with the 1D because it's incompatible with the 1D's 2-way design. Mechanically, the 1D may be a 3-way design, but the electrical crossover network is 2-way.

Agreed. There's no reason to do so. In fact, the T-1D was a 2-way (as you said), with the two mid/bass panels in parallel.

Additionally, even if the nominal crossover points were exactly the same, they'd shift with the 1D's 4 ohm impedance.
