I had a pair that I'd given to a friend in Honolulu. He wasn't using them (for 10 years!) so I had him send them to WBL to be refurbished as a wedding present for a friend of mine in in Nashville. I also had the covers changed from black to white (a wedding present, you know ;-) Magnepan did a terrific job (for about $250 I think it was), and shipped them to Nashville. And although his wedding plans fell through, somehow, my friend thinks they should be his speakers all the same (and now he's not using them either!)
They were in better shape than yours (it sounds like) but they're great speakers IMO; and if you really love them and don't mind spending a little money, you can probably have the tweeters upgraded to a quasi-ribbons which would be a pretty big improvment.
