Prior to the Silver monos, I had the V-4-s and they were a magnificent match. However, I upgraded the silver monos and they outperformed the V-4's. With your v-4s upgraded, they are no doubt ahead again. They only use a .056 coupling capacitor which on the silver mono is a .27 600V. The .056 is about the size of a thimble. I did try the better caps in the V-4's and they did move foreward significantly, but not dramatically. Probably needed more break in time. People don't seem to feel comfortable with tubes driving a 4ohm load when in fact the tubes do just fine. They are high voltage sources and are not affected the same way a SS amp is.
The V-4's crank out about 160wpc on peaks which is significant. I compared them to a pair of Bryston 7BST, and the V-4's beat out the legendary 7BST from top to bottom driving the difficult to drive Aerial 10T...not even close. There were a lot of gaping jaws. I thought the tubes would win in the mids and top end, the SS in the bass. Not so, the SS in the bass was flat, thin, and had impact, but no body...too much damping. Jallen
