My experience

A computer based analysis of sound emanating from the 1.6s' indicates that the offending frequencies are in the region of 10.1KHZ.

Half-agree. My FFT measurement confirms that the QR tweeter is pretty uneven above 7 KHz. However, that's not the cause of the brightness sometimes associated with the MG1.6. The latter is due to the electrical drive to the QR tweeter starting to kick in (upper midrange/lower treble, 1-2 KHz).

The stock MG1.6 crossover has a moderate amount (4 dB) of equalization built-in. This was designed to compensate for the response of the drivers. But it's only a rough compensation, and the result is a somewhat unnatural sound.

As an EE and programmer, I've developed a number of software equalizers for the MG1.6. While it is possible to flatten out the MG1.6's acoustic response and better adjust for dipole cancellation, the end result sounds equalized to me. I find that it's better to live with the MG1.6 driver's personalities than to try to "fix" them.
