Re: Quad ESL 57 thoughts

Hi,

I've used alot of different amps with the ESL,including the Berning ZH270(which is a phenomenal amp). You can check some of my posts here..

Currently using a Wyetech Labs Topaz 211 SET at 18wpc. This is the most realistic presentation yet. Voices and lateral placement just hang in air with the most natural timbre. It's no ordinary SET it has massive decoupled oil capacitor power supplies and it weighs in at over 100lbs.It also works with the USA monitors!

I've heard the Wyetech Saphire SET which is far less money and easier to handle and it is also superb. So, SET can be done but most will be mushy and limited at the extremes. You need to find the right match...Unfortunately you get what you pay for here ....If you have the time and skill you could build something that will work for less. I searched for a SET amp for over 2years before I landed on the Wyetech.

Otherwise, if you're unwilling or unable to bid in to the appropriate SET... a good push-pull amp (I like vintage) is the way to go. Your TT should be just fine.. Another option may be to pick up a pair of atmasphere M60's if you're detail orientated. The OTL's do work well with the ESL...and Wayne's workmanship is first class on those speakers... he's rebuilt a pair for me too...

Good Luck,

AJ
