Hi Infinite,
When I replaced the Ribbons in my IIIa's i found that the size of the connecting wires that were directly soldered to the ribbons were pretty substantial. Required more than my 25 watt soldering iron could do quickly.
You may need a bigger iron than I had.
Just go ahead and do it. everything is repairable. Just be careful.
