Re: What kind of $$$ we talkin?

Hello draggerj,

Thanks for your interest but I am afraid you are mistaken about getting the ribbons from partsexpress. Can't even get them at Walmart either. The ribbons are the thinnest available (point 3 mil thick) custom-made and use proprietary technology. They have numerous enhancements over any other ribbon out there. Pricing for the speakers has not been firmly establish but ballpark;

Model 3's: with 40 inch ribbon and four 8" woofers around $12k
Model 2's: with 60 inch ribbon and four 12" woofers around $17.5k

The bass on the speakers is absolutely remarkable with range on model 2 down to 17HZ and model 3 down to 23 HZ. Normal dynamic woofers are not used -- these are special ribbon hybrids, so they have a planar front but can move like a dynamic, have tremendous throw and move a lot of air. SO they have the responsiveness and clarity of a ribbon and the power of a dynamic. Also, because the speaker is a dipole, a lot of the standing wave problems are eliminated since there is a fair amount of averaging that occurs given rear reflections. Furthermore, because the ribbon and woofers are topologically the same, you have a true planar line source and tremendous coherence. There has been a lot of thought and clever execution that has gone into these speakers.

The frames are made out of 1" thick corian and are essentially non-resonant in audio frequencies. The crossover is a 4th order Linkwitz-Riley using the highest quality components including air-core inductors and non-polar capacitors.

Again, thanks for your interest.
