Just an off hand thought. Do the ML subs include a high pass filter. If so or if not and you can get a decent high pass at say 100 Hz you may be surprised. The little 5" woofer will be moving less than 1/4 as much and will be able to play much louder with the ML handling a bit more(hope it will go up to there). And there's a bonus the upper bass and mids from the 5" will be much cleaner, open and faster.
Adding a sub does a lot but adding it with a high pass filter(that many subs don't have unfortunately) does twice as much. I added large subs to a pair of SEAS froy 3 speakers at about 85 Hz so I know what a big deal it is.
