RE: Quads, Should I Bother?

I took Sheldon Stokes advice and am currently listening to the 57's driven by Heathkit UA amplifiers with the low feedback setting. I agree with Sheldon about them being a great match for 57's. The amps are also inexpensive and very easy to upgrade the coupling caps, I'm using a mix of film and PIO's (there are only two in the circuit).

I'm currently perplexed about the 57's I had been using an electrometer to check the HV, and just purchased a fieldmeter and am finding an uneven charge on the panels. Which would match what I have read about the coating evaporating with time. The problem is that the speakers sound great. I have the film and coating having expected to find some panels arcing and was going to build a stretching jig. Now I'm reluctant to touch a panel that sounds so good. I think instead I'll check output of the panels and see if I can detect volume differences within each panel.
