I've blown plenty of fuses in my Tympani IVa, and all over the place, by turning my pre-amp's input selector switch passed and through a 'tape' input while a deck was in its record mode.

"(I've lifted so many veils with different upgrades the last couple of years that Maggie would be down to her g-string if her name was Salome...)"

Won't help you in your Maggie dilemna, but no strings nor anything else attached at a Met performance I attended:
