RE: I Applaud Your Ignenuity...

Hey Doug,

Thanks for the nice words. I didn't really come up with the idea (it was mentioned in the archives) but I think I was the first with the gumption to try it on maggies. Anyhow I am sooooooo glad I did.

I would be shocked if the mylar would be damaged from the dynamat as they are not touching at least not that on the pole pieces. The frame though I think has the mylar sandwiched so it is not in direct contact. I'll let you know in 10 years :)

That is a very interesting theory you have about dividing the panel. I bet you are right. I certainly had not considered it. DO you think I should put the strips on at regular intervals?

And to answer your question, when I said it soaked up some frequencies, I just meant that it probably has a range of frequencies of vibration that it was better at absorbing. The spec sheet talks about absorption at 200hz. So that line was simply to state that a combination of materials would perhaps be the best approach.

I haven't noticed a difference in bass response, but maybe some increase in resolution. I recall a column by Sam Tellig where he said that all speaker manufacturers would place their speakers in his room in similar places (where the response was the flattest). Then when they left he would always move them so that the soundstage was the widest and deepest. That would decrease the bass but he didnt mind the trade off. Well I for one do the same thing. So the speakers can do more bass than I have them set up for right now. My plan is to get the extra bass with subs if I can figure out a way to sell my amp that I am comfortable with....
