I Applaud Your Ignenuity...

It is through such experimentation that some very good discoveries come! I hope that Minnesota is watching what you're doing. It would be interesting to learn if they have ever worked with materials to test out such things. This may be kept from the world, but such testing certainly can't hurt.

I wonder what would become of the Mylar long term due to the chemicals in the Dynamat? Possibly nothing, possibly negative? No way to know unless given the time, say 5-10 years. Care to report back on that long term? :)

Yes, it does make one wonder if, when dampening is added the speaker sounds so much better, how much unnecessary/extraneous movement, hence distortion, is happening with the stock speaker. My theory is that the Dynamat is subdividing the panel into smaller panels, in this case vertically as opposed to horizontally, in a roughly similar conceptual fashion to the Kingsound King speaker I now run (I have called this reviewed speaker a "Line Source ESL" and praised it for it's speed, clarity, detail, and depth of soundstage, among other things). This would increase precision in the same way that line source speakers increase precision through using multiple smaller drivers. There might be a slight elevation (i.e. decrease) in the absolute lowest frequencies but with more noticeable detail, taken by the ear to be a big improvement. At least, that's what I think would happen. You said that the Dynamat "soaks up some frequencies"; do you mean low frequencies primarily?

I would enjoy further discussion on this. Kudos to the gentleman scientist audiophile!
