Bass should be 'sloppy' and maybe even boomy.
It may sound 'slower' to some.
The above is for box speakers. Some old school stuff like the huge K-horns may actually enjoy some resistance in line. Like a the tube amps they were designed to work with!

Again, I'm not sure how magnepans will act when you put a resistor in the path.
