I am still drinking my morning coffee, so I may not have my thoughts in order but I don't think your comments about phasing in the crossover region is correct. Whether the drivers are connected with the same or opposite polarity does not solely determine the phase at the crossover point since this also depends on the order of the filters and varies with frequency. In other words, two drivers that are connected with the same polarity may be in opposite phase at the crossover (typical 2nd order filters). Polarity and phasing are not the same - polarity being a fixed entity and phasing being frequency dependent. Also the phase v frequency will be the same for a series filter as for a parallel filter provided they are the same order and have the same -3db point.
