I bought some damaged Magnepan MG1.5's. I had the seller send them direct to Magnepan. I called Magnepan ahead of time and got an RA#, emailed the RA# & Magnepan shipping address to the seller. As far as payment- I paid the seller right away, i new i was buying damaged speakers. I just took a chance. you'll have to work out payment options with your seller.Get the damage-specifics from the seller and call Magnepan to get an estimate. They gave me an estimate of $250-350. Turned out to be around $275 plus $50 shipping back to me(NY state). Mine did not need any other work than what the seller reported( some vibrating/loose wires). Just hope you have an honest seller, it's a chance you take.
Basically, call Magnepan's 800# and talk to Karen in service. She'll walk you through it. I think her extension is 34. You'll need the model# and serial# to give her. Some older models are not serviceable anymore.
In the end it was well worth it for me. I got a pair of "just like new" MG1.5's for a VERY good price. magnepan thoroughly goes over the speakers, even tests them before returning.
good luck!
