My vote goes to the Heathkit UA-2 monos, which are the best I've heard of the 6 I've tried (Music Reference RM-10, RM-9, Dynaco ST-35, Goldmund SRA, Fisher 500, and a homebuilt amp.) I think their strength is that they seem to reproduce the performance better than the other amps. I really feel the effort by the instrumentalists and the vocalist more. Plus they really recreate the feel of the room the music is recorded in well. Bass is supprisingly good! Trying a SET amp next, because others have had good luck with them, but this is the longest I've been satisfied with an amplifier for.
