After the issue of diffraction was brought up, I went ahead and did a chamfer cut on the inner frame openings. Found some nice stainless clevis brackets on the web, which made installing the struts easier. The oak struts will be painted black, hopefully won't look too diy-ish. Still going to use a sock, but after coating the frames with Minwax Sand and Seal, they look kind of purty.
