I accept your statements as general truths - but I have a caveat. What if one listens to acoustic music at relatively low volumes in a small space through the junior Maggies? Does it matter if an amp has tremendous power on tap even if it's never drawn by the speakers? Do general truths always translate into absolute truths?

In relation to your fourth point, it needs to be emphasized that one needn't spend inordinate amounts of money to meet those objectives. Thanks to a series of unfortunate events, I'm on as tight an audio budget as anyone in this forum - I suspect I'm hovering near the bottom of the inmates in this ward in terms of total system cost. My amp/preamp combo (Acurus A200/RL11) can be purchased on the secondary market for under $800 delivered. The output impedence of that amp rises gently to a maximum (in the audio band) of 28 milliohms at 20kHz (at 1kHz it's a mere 11 milliohms). That spec compares favorably to most amps that cost far more. In fact, running down the entire list of specs (tested by a third party and listed in a review) can only be categorized as excellent, yet some of the same individuals who are so hell-bent on measurements would probably turn their noses up at the thing. What I like about both units is their simple, direct circuit topology and solid construction.

Thanks to this and other forums, my penchant for DIY modding has enabled me to maximize my rather modest equipment (plus have a great deal of fun doing it). I am very happy.
