The Big Island is better for morotcycling

Oh wow, Ka'a'awa is one of those small towns, north of Kaneohe.

My mom's mom was from Kohala, the northwest tip of the Big Island. The Big Island has the distance, for motorcycle clubs/gangs.

Both of my mom's parents are buried at Diamond Head Mortuary. You are correct; the Koolau Mountains effect a severe rain shadow. Diamond Head Mortuary bakes in the heat, so you should go when it opens in the morning, or an hour before it closes.

Several of my relatives live in Kailua and Kaneohe. In fact, many of my audio products from the 1990s and 2000s ended up with relatives in Hawaii.

Fins make you swim better, and keep you afloat. But they do nothing to protect you from scraping your knees on the reef :-)

Up to and including 1991, I spent every summer with relatives in Hawaii. That obviously shaped me as an audiophile. But in 1990 and 1991, Audio Directions Ltd.'s Stewart Ono (AA's late UncleStu52) was the lone guy who recognized that, as a college kid, I was not going to buy anything expensive at that very moment. However, Stu also understood that, if you treated newbies like me right, they would come back later, and spend $$$$ on audio.
