It's actually spiderwort. Found out the hard way I'm allergic to spiderwort sap. Affects me like poison ivy, except it takes longer to go away and heal than poison ivy. Itches like a mofo.

Years ago I used to start my tomatoes from seed, but finally caved in and bought my plants at the nursery. Lot easier that way. The trick was to find the right varieties to buy/plant.

I've narrowed it down to two varieties that do really well here and taste great. The Cherokee Purple, and a hybrid named Big Beef. Big Beef was developed by the same guy that developed the Celebrity hybrid. The Big Beef produce 8 to 10 ounce fruit that tastes like a Brandywine. Both are very disease resistant too.
