If we had squirrels in the trees, they wouldn't be much of a problem. With our ground squirrels, they are a nuisance and quite destructive. These pests burrow under the foundation of the house and under concrete slabs near the pool and elsewhere. They don't hide acorns, they eat green plant and ground cover and will kill plants by eating the roots. In addition, the borrows can collapse and you could break your leg if not careful around their tunnels.
I have to admit that the squirrels are cute and clever. A couple of the younger ones were working together one day with one lifting the other up to pick off a flower from the hibiscus bush. But it wasn't so cute after they cleared the bush of all its flowers.
