Visualize a cartridge lying horizontally as is fired. Imagine the line of powder behind the bullet. The primer's job is to ignite the rear of the power charge and burn forward propelling the bullet.
If the load is too light, the powder level is so low as to have the entire top edge of it ignite simultaneously. That tends to explode barrels!
Reload by the book and never wander too low or too high. I'm also a reloader although my rig pales in comparison to Vic's. It is an old RCBS single stage Rockchucker. Now the optometrist across the street, however, has multiple progressives like Vic and color codes every round!
